ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

HFMA branch and First Intuition student conference - supporting talent.
The day will provide a mix of plenary and workshop sessions. There will also be opportunity to network with other finance students and colleagues studying similar qualifications.

HOW WOULD YOU BENEFIT?

This event will be an opportunity to learn about current developments across the NHS, improve your finance skills through workshops and provide a chance to connect with other finance students.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This one-day event is for any member of finance staff who is currently studying or about to embark on a course of study as well as NHS staff interested in their personal development.

WORKSHOP CHOICES

1A - Presentation of data to stakeholders for added value
This workshop will look at high level analysis of financial and non-financial data. Picking out key trends and information that would be relevant to stakeholders to include in reporting. This skill is required in all professional qualifications and would therefore be relevant to all students.

1B - Change management
This practical workshop will look at tools to handle change within a job role or organisation. This is a key career skill but is also relevant in business strategy and case study scenario exams.

1C - How to navigate the job market in today’s new world of work
Top tips on preparing an effective CV, an update on what skills employers are looking for post the Covid-19 pandemic and how to showcase these on your CV, how to tailor your CV to the job you want to apply for, and top tips on what to do and what not to do on social media including LinkedIn. Offering an expert insight from the eyes of a recruiter to help you navigate successful internal and external job applications for your career choices in the months and years ahead.

2A - Sustainability in finance & beyond – FI
Finance departments are seen as a key driver for sustainability to be embedded in departments. This topic is also regularly examined across the financial qualifications. Our workshop will consider key ways sustainability can be built into an organisation, with a particular focus on practices within NHS teams.

2B - Portfolios and Practical Experience Requirements
Increasingly students are required to write about their practical application of skills in the workplace. This workshop will look at how best to structure portfolio evidence and relate the key transferable skills to document your workplace experience.
