The HFMA Yorkshire and Humber branch would like to invite you attend the NHS Finance Director Survival Guide event taking place online on the 16th July 2024 via ZOOM - 09:30-16:30.

The challenging but rewarding role of a Finance Director in the NHS continues to evolve at pace, requiring many skills, both technical & otherwise. Whilst providing an exciting opportunity to finance professionals, the multi-faceted requirements of the role can also be somewhat daunting without a guiding hand.

In this highly practical & interactive one-day training course, delivered by a former NHS Finance Director, you will learn skills relevant for the modern-day NHS Finance Director to help you have confidence & the ability to excel in this role.

By the end of this event, delegates will be able to:

• Describe the attributes of a great Finance Director (including some fun myth-busting!)
• Be the Finance Business Partner to the CEO & the Board
• Identify your key internal & external stakeholders who contribute to F.D. success.
• Lead the technical & compliance side of the function whilst dealing with team building & developing careers.
• Ensure all necessary policies and procedures to ensure sound financial management / governance and appropriate risk management and assurance processes are in place.
• Discuss strategy and challenges of operational finance.
• Deliver difficult messages & cope with not always being popular!
• Manage the C.E.O. (who are known to have differing levels of financial literacy!)
• Use techniques to work with the Chair and Non-Executive Directors.
• Handle the wellbeing of yourself & your team.
• Overall, the day will provide practical guidance on how to thrive in an F.D. role as well as provide excellent networking & peer learning opportunities.

Current & aspiring NHS Finance Directors, including Deputy & Assistant Finance Directors, aiming to excel in this role.
