Module / NHS policy, law and governance
Overview
The NHS in England is encountering major challenges and significant change. The NHS must address the challenges of increasing demand, heightened patient and public expectations, and an ongoing pressure on public funding of health and care services. The module will provide learners with a critical knowledge and application of the context, policy and legal framework within which primary care operates.
Learners will analyse the key elements of service and delivery; contractual and organisational models and premises; compliance with regulatory obligations; management of clinical risks; legal considerations in respect of the employment of staff and Care Quality Commission registration. The module will also equip learners to critically evaluate the governance arrangements of primary and community-based care organisations and develop structures that support sound decision-making and the effective management of the conflicts of interest that often arise in such organisations.
