The last six months has seen several years’ worth of transformation in the Health Service’s use of digital platforms.  But it doesn’t stop here.  In addition to reviewing the achievements of the last six months, this is an opportunity to scope the developments of the future. This brings unique challenges to the IT and finance functions alike. 

Organisations operating with poor digital infrastructure often struggle to justify further investment, whilst those with mature systems always seem to see the value of further investment.  Whys is this?  It’s about digital financial maturity; it can be difficult when investments may replace legacy systems, require redesign of services, improve patient outcomes. Mature systems are used to addressing these challenges.   Digital investment now occurs on a system and regional scale. How can an organisation be sure that fair values are attributed to qualitative improvement, that costs and benefits are matched; how can organisations ensure that local systems interface seamlessly.  Who pays for the central costs?  How do we evidence match funding? With the nature of (capital/revenue) funding determined centrally for Estates and Technology Transformation Funding (ETTF) and Health Service Led Investment (HSLI), how do you ensure that an organisation is not exposed to audit risk.

Communication between Digital and Financial Experts can be a challenge and can hinder progress.  This session also investigates overcoming the language barriers that can prevent the production of a compelling financial and operational case.

There will also be an opportunity to highlight career opportunities coming up in the Regional Digital Team.

Who should attend?

The session is open to anyone.  However, we would recommend that senior management accounting support/assistant director support is on hand, to gain an understanding of the timing and the nature of the challenges that lie ahead.  You may also wish to engage with IT colleagues that will working on the development of ETTF and HSLI business cases…
