The statement includes the learning from the Francis Report and is intended to help other NHS staff, including chairs and governing body members, better understand what the CFO does and why he or she is critical to the success of an NHS organisation.

Although the report is written from the perspective of the NHS in England, the principles set out apply equally to those working in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
