Briefing / Digitisation and efficiency in NHS finance departments
The NHS continues to deliver savings through efficiency and reducing waste. NHS organisations need to maintain this focus following Lord Carter’s recent review of operational providers in the NHS, which recommended that administration costs should not exceed 7% of organisational turnover by 2018 and 6% by 2020. Implementing these recommendations is a priority that NHS England and NHS Improvement set out in their July 2016 paper Strengthening Financial Performance and Accountability in 2016/17.
This briefing explores how NHS organisations can learn from others which have had success digitising financial services and includes case studies and the results of a survey aimed at understanding NHS organisations’ progress in adopting digital technology.
