Darren qualified as a diagnostic Radiographer in 1997, the majority of his career has been in Radiology services at Southend and now Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. After three years undertaking plain X-ray, overnight and theatre Radiography Darren chose to specialise in CT and MRI scanning. After completing a Masters of Science degree in CT scanning he moved into managing CT and MRI services at Southend. Following this Darren became the manager of Radiology services at Southend and undertook secondments firstly manging ED, Acute medicine and diabetes's services, and then an associate Director role overseeing Pathology, Radiology, Pharmacy, Radiotherapy and Dietetic services.

Darren’s current role is the Deputy Director of Operations, Radiology for Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, he also the chairs the Image East Imaging Network Assets and Equipment workstream. Darren’s day-to-day work involves managing Radiology services across Mid and South Essex and deputising for the Director of Operations for Care group 4 (services include Pathology, Therapies, Pharmacy, Integrated Care and Control Centre/site management teams). The Radiology service has over 600 staff across multiple sites and a budget of c£50m.
