This course looks at the role of ethics and values in governance. It also examines the key features of governance and explores what a board contributes to this. The four characteristics of effective board governance are explored: collective decision-making, constructive challenge, board culture and ‘trust but verify’. The course goes on to look at the role of regulators and illustrates the effect of lessons learned from poor governance elsewhere on practice in the NHS.
This course is suitable for budget and operational managers, clinical and medical, finance staff, governors and board members, new to the NHS, primary care staff.
