The HFMA's equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) bursary
Equality, diversity and inclusion are key components of the HFMA’s new strategy. We are pleased to offer 20 learners from under-represented groups a 75% funded bursary towards an HFMA diploma. This EDI bursary is principally targeted at three specific groups that the association has identified through our research and member feedback. These are:
- individuals from ethnic minorities
- individuals who have a disability
- individuals working within agenda for change bands 2 to 6.
The HFMA will consider applications for the bursary from individuals who put forward a case for other under-represented groups not included above.
How to apply
Anyone who falls into one of these categories is eligible to apply for the bursary funding to study an HFMA qualification. Please contact the team to apply for or enquire about the bursary
What does the diploma include?
The HFMA diploma consists of two modules, a compulsory module of ‘Making finance work in the NHS’ (qualified accountants with 2+ years experience get exemption) and a second module of your choice from the following modules below:
Creating and delivering value in healthcare
Managing the healthcare business
Personal effectiveness and leadership
Tools to support decision-making
Supporting quality care through patient-level costing
You can apply at any point before the intake starts. We recommend you submit your application as soon as possible to ensure you do not miss the opportunity to benefit from bursary which is limited.
We run two intakes per calendar year, these will take place in March and October.
We understand that extenuating circumstances can arise which may result in a break of learning required. Please reach out to the HFMA Academy for support, you can apply for a break in learning or for a study deferral. All requests should be sent to [email protected]
You can complete the diploma in less than 12 months.
We offer a fully online learning experience which includes live online group sessions with your tutor one evening per week. All learning materials and resources are provided through our online learning environment to equip you with the tools required to complete the full diploma. We recommend allowing approximately 15 hours per week towards your studies, this would include the weekly live taught sessions.
There would be some repayable costs if you do not complete the diploma. Please ensure you read our terms and conditions before enrolling onto the programme.
Academy regional bursaries
How do I apply?
The Midlands Finance Academy is providing NHS finance staff in the Midlands with the opportunity to further their knowledge, enhance career opportunities and gain professional training by enrolling in the HFMA qualification in healthcare business and finance with fully funded places.
There are 12 funded places on offer. This is one place per ICS and one regional place which can be taken by the NHS England regional team or a CSU. There are now limited places remaining for this opportunity, which are on offer for the March 2024 intake.
You can apply for a funded place via the application form, and applicants must be working in an NHS finance role within the Midlands region to apply. Please note, all funding is subject to strength of application, meeting the requirements and approval from the Midlands Finance Academy Board.
