HFMA 2017: Costing excellence
Recognising the trust’s work on the costing transformation programme (CTP), NHS Improvement awarded the first CTP PLICS Submission Award to University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (pictured).
NHS Improvement has also been running an audit and assurance process to improve costing data. And, to honour the first trust to achieve full assurance, it gave the Costing Assurance Excellence Award to Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust (below).
Monique Duffy-Brogan, NHS Improvement chief pricing officer, said the national oversight body would be running a number of events in the new year specifically designed for finance director – their engagement in costing was vital.
She added: ‘Good costing data could help us save money. All modern companies understand that good data is key to delivering an efficient service. Understanding costs and where your resources are deployed is key to improving financial outcomes across the NHS. In a nutshell – get involved, get costing and get value.’
