Healthcare Finance December 2011
The NHS in England spends around £11bn on drugs each year, making it a prime target for the current efficiency drive. There are a number of national schemes designed to ensure the NHS gets value for money, but what can individual trusts do? This month’s issue of Healthcare Finance talks to Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust about the innovative ways it has approached reducing its drugs spending, releasing funds and resources for better care and benefitting the wider health economy. There is coverage of the operating framework for 2012/13 and NHS deputy chief executive David Flory explains why finance staff are pivotal in the service’s success over the coming year. We also focus on how e-rostering is using staff time better and the development of a year of care funding model.
