Paul is a chartered accountant with an MBA from the Open University. He spent seventeen years working as head of internal audit in a number of NHS organisations; from non-departmental public bodies, trusts and health authorities. He was also the managing director of South Coast Audit (now part of TIAA). He is an Honorary Fellow of the HFMA, having been a Trustee and chair of the Corporate Governance and Audit committee, involved in the first editions of the Introductory Guide to NHS Governance and the NHS Audit Committee Handbook, and a regular speaker at conferences.
After working in the NHS he spent nine years as director of internal audit at the House of Commons, before starting as a freelance consultant around areas of governance, risk management and assurance.
