The fundamentals of governance

Overview

This course looks at what governance is; initially focusing on governance in the corporate world, it explores the core elements that are recognisable in all types of organisation. The course will then identify the key features of governance within the healthcare sector, reflecting on the different models of governance within different NHS organisations. The course compares the critical distinctions between governance and management and the separation required from the day-to-day running of an organisation.

This course is relevant to those who are new to the NHS, clinical staff, budget and operational managers, finance staff, primary care staff.

Can I use this course to gain a qualification?

You can complete this intermediate course as part of a series of 5 courses, to achieve the HFMA Intermediate certificate ‘Governance and risk management in the NHS’. This is equivalent to an undergraduate level certificate worth 20 academic credits.
