The students included those who took part in a pilot, as well as those who passed the first of three modules for the diploma or higher diploma.

Ms Parker is studying for the higher diploma. She started the programme in May and completed the Creating and delivering value in UK healthcare module. She is currently studying the Managing the healthcare business module.

She said: ‘I am overwhelmed. It is a real honour to be awarded student of the year – especially being the first one on the programme. I’m extremely proud to be awarded and very grateful to my tutors who nominated me. It is exciting to be rewarded for my hard work and commitment.’Student awards l'scape

HFMA education director Alison Myles said: ‘The qualifications awards ceremony was an extremely positive step for the association and for the first group of learners that achieved HFMA qualifications. It was fantastic to celebrate the well-deserved success of our dedicated learners and to support the continued development of the qualifications programme.

‘We were pleased to award the first ever Tony Whitfield Award to the student of the year, Tracy Parker. We were delighted that Tony was present to hand out the award and to congratulate Tracy for her outstanding contribution to her learner group, hard work and significant achievement.’

She added: ‘We hope that this group of learners inspire others who are interested in studying for HFMA qualifications and we look forward to welcoming a growing number of learners onto the programme in 2018.’
