Andy Hardy small portrait

Former HFMA president Andy Hardy (pictured) was formally appointed CIPFA president at the institute’s annual general meeting in July. Mr Hardy, chief executive of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust since 2010, previously served as the trust’s chief finance officer for six years. He sits on a number of boards, including the West Midlands Academic Health Science Network, and in 2016 he was appointed professor of industry at the University of Warwick. He became HFMA president in December 2013. 

Head of the North West Skills Development Network Di Ormandy has now retired. She has worked for more than 35 years in the NHS in the North West, including the last seven years at the Skills Development Network (SDN). Georgina Dean
(pictured) has been appointed chief finance officer at Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. She was previously NHS England and NHS Improvement director of operational finance for the Midlands region. Prior to that, she held senior finance positions at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Michael Brodie, chief executive of the NHS Business Services Authority, has been appointed interim chief executive of Public Health England, following the establishment of the new National Institute for Health Protection. Mr Brodie, who succeeds Duncan Selbie, was previously finance and commercial director of Public Health England.Libby.Walters small portrait

From 1 September, Libby Walters (pictured) will return to her role as director of finance and deputy chief executive at the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust, after a four-month period as interim chief executive. Cara Charles-Barks will become the new chief executive from 1 September, joining from Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust.

Damian Reid has been appointed chief financial officer at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. He joins the trust from Bedford Hospital NHS Trust. A qualified chartered management accountant, he started his career in the Ministry of Defence, followed by a series of appointments in the public and private sectors. He has held a number of senior positions within national, regional and local NHS organisations, including acute and community providers. His portfolio at East Sussex includes finance, procurement and digital.Brian.Baker small portrait

Brian Baker (pictured), the Northern Ireland Health and Social Care Board head accountant, commissioning (North and West), is due to retire at the end of September. Though officially retired at the end of May, in June he returned to cover the position, pending recruitment to the post. Mr Baker recently received a HFMA Key contributor award for his work on the HFMA Northern Ireland Branch conference programme.

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust has appointed Julian Miller chief financial officer. He joined the trust in May 2000, and has held a variety of posts including divisional finance manager, head of financial management and planning, and deputy director of finance. He was appointed director of finance (non-board attending) in October 2012. He was seconded to the former Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust as interim executive director of finance in 2015, until the trusts merged in 2018. He succeeds Mike Sexton, who is now the trust’s deputy chief executive.

Amy Whitaker has been appointed interim director of finance at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. She joined the trust in 2013 as deputy director of finance. Former director of finance Andrew Copley will now provide executive financial leadership to the local health and care partnerships in Bradford District and Craven, as the health and care system moves towards a more integrated operating model.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust director of finance Keith Griffiths (pictured) is to leave the trust at the end of October to take up a new role in the North West. Mr Griffiths has been appointed director of finance and resources at Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Trust chief executive Aaron Cummins said: ‘On behalf of the trust, I would like to thank him for his support and leadership since joining the trust in April 2018. Among other responsibilities, Keith has led our cost improvement programme which last year (2019/20), saved an impressive £22m thanks to his direction and the hard work of teams across the trust. This not only met our nationally agreed financial control totals, but also reduced our deficit from £70m in 2018/19 to £41m in 2019/20. I’m sure all our colleagues across the trust would join me in wishing Keith and his family all the best for the future.’
