Patrick McGahon (pictured),Patrick.McGahon people the director of finance and information at Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, is due to retire this month. Mr McGahon began his career in local government before moving to the NHS in the 1994. He has been an NHS board director for over 25 years, mostly in provider organisations, and was previously the director of finance for the NHS Business Services Authority. He is also a member of the HFMA Policy and Research Committee and chairman of Carlisle College, part of the NCG Group.

Mark Pickering is now chief finance officer at Tees Valley Clinical Commissioning Group. He was previously chief finance officer at Darlington Clinical Commissioning Group and Durham Dales, Easington and Sedgefield Clinical Commissioning Group. The latter has merged with North Durham Clinical Commissioning Group on 1 April to become County Durham Clinical Commissioning Group. Mr Pickering has more than 29 years’ experience working in finance and performance in local government and the NHS.

Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR) clinical commissioning groups have made a number of joint appointments, covering East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group, Leicester City Clinical Commissioning Group and West Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group. Donna Briggs (right) is now interim executive director of finance, contracting and corporate governance, with Nicci Briggs(left), the director of finance at Kettering General Hospital NHS Trust, due to take the substantive role later in the year. Spencer Gay is deputy director of finance – system and contracting, and Michelle Iliffe has been appointed deputy director of finance – financial control and corporate governance.

Trevor Smith has been appointed executive chief finance officer and resources officer at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT). He is due to join the trust in the autumn from The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAH), where he is currently deputy chief executive and chief finance officer. Mr Smith has worked as a director of finance in health and social care for more than 20 years, in commissioning and provider organisations. In his new role he will be responsible for the oversight of EPUT’s financial management and business development, as well as IT, information governance, estates and facilities.

EPUT’s outgoing CFO Mark Madden (pictured),Mark.Madden.2 people is due to retire in October after 28 years of working in the NHS. He joined the then South Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust in 2014, and has been CFO at EPUT since it was formed in 2017. Sally Morris, chief executive officer, said: ‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark for his years of diligent service to the NHS. He has been a vital and valued member of my executive management team since 2013 when I became chief executive of one of our predecessor organisations, and will be missed by many of our staff who hold him in very high regard. I am pleased that Trevor’s appointment has been secured well in advance of both Mark and my retirement later this year; this means that both our new CFO and CEO will be in post before we leave and ensure a smooth transition.’

Chris Pease has been appointed senior commercial finance manager at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He was previously deputy director of finance at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.

Erika Bannerman (pictured)Erika.Bannerman people has been appointed managing director of NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS), the joint venture between the Department of Health and Social Care and digital experts Sopra Steria. The appointment follows the departure of David Morris, who is now chief executive officer of Shared Services Connected Ltd (SSCL) – a joint venture between Sopra Steria and the Cabinet Office. Ms Bannerman has a wealth of experience across business services, consultancy, digital and commercial partnerships. NHS SBS said she will lead the ongoing digital transformation of the non-clinical services it provides to more than 250 NHS organisations around the country. She said: ‘One of the things that has impressed me most about NHS SBS, is the genuine commitment that exists across the organisation to add real value to our NHS partners. With such a dedicated and high-performing team in place, I’m confident that our reputation as an innovative, next generation shared service provider to the NHS will continue to grow.’
