Mark Knight is the Chief Executive of HFMA. Mark became the first full-time Chief Executive of the then newly independent Healthcare Financial Management Association in October 2000.
Under Mark’s guidance HFMA has become the leading professional body in the UK dedicated to setting and promoting the highest standards in financial management and governance in healthcare. He has been responsible for growing membership to around a third of all finance staff working in UK healthcare and built an organisation that seeks to represent, support and provide high quality, independent and objective advice to its members and the wider healthcare community.
Mark’s skills and experience in the sector have enabled HFMA to strengthen its internal capacity and grow its team of staff of 67 who are totally dedicated to delivering HFMA’s vision of ‘better quality healthcare through effective use of resources’.
Mark has been instrumental in developing HFMA’s policy and technical area, is a frequent contributor to the media agenda and has been responsible for the development of a comprehensive policy programme. He speaks at international events and has contributed a number of pieces to healthcare journals.
Originally from the Midlands, Mark lives in Wales, where he studied as an undergraduate. After a five year period in HR spent in the public services he worked for three professional bodies prior to taking up his current role. Mark is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and has passed the Diploma in Marketing leading to membership of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
