The HFMA Awards 2014 have been described as ‘more important than ever’ as the NHS finance function looks to take a leading role in service transformation.

The association launched its 2014 awards at the start of June, marking 10 years of its successful programme. Writing in the launch brochure, HFMA president Andy Hardy said finance staff were crucial to meeting the current challenges facing the NHS.

He said these roles included the delivery of robust cost data to inform clinical decisions around service options and the provision of support to understand variation in practice and outcomes. But he said it was also about retaining a firm grip of day-to-day finances and supporting good governance.

‘So it is more important than ever to recognise best practice in healthcare finance and governance,’ he said. ‘We need to celebrate local success and showcase the talent and commitment that exist across the healthcare finance function.’

The 10th anniversary awards again feature eight main categories (the 2013 awards had an additional ‘new organisation’ award to mark the revised structures introduced last April). Award categories include: finance director; deputy finance director; accounts team; efficiency and innovation; governance; costing; clinician of the year; and training.

Full details of the judges and entry requirements will be on the HFMA website in early June. Entries must be submitted by 26 September. Further interviews of shortlisted candidates may be undertaken by the judging panel before winners are announced at an awards ceremony during the HFMA annual conference in December.
