NHS Supply Chain
The new NHS Supply Chain, the only national procurement organisation to provide end to end supply chain solutions, was implemented by the Department of Health and Social Care Procurement Transformation Programme (PTP) to deliver value and savings of £2.4 billion back into frontline services and patient care.
The new procurement model will help the NHS reduce unwarranted price variation, increase product optimisation by delivering clinically led, quality products at the best value through a range of specialist category buying functions, providing more consistency in both clinical and patient experience.
The PTP was established to undertake this transformation replacing the previous NHS Supply Chain contract with a new operating model. The PTP procured and embedded 11 new specialist medical, non-medical and capital category tower service providers, two enabling service providers for logistics and supporting technology and set-up a new commercially astute management function called Supply Chain Coordination Limited.
