Collecting, analysing and understanding the cost of NHS patient care is vitally important in making
decisions about how to manage and deliver sustainable high-quality services. This session will
introduce the key concepts of patient-level costing, including:
    • What is costing
    • Why costing is important
    • Why we collect costing information
    • The role of a costing practitioner

    Speakers
Hayley Ringrose   / Former Chief Financial Analyst – Contracting and Costing , Stockport NHS FT

Costing in the NHS has changed significantly over recent years. In this session you will hear about the evolution from reference costs to the Costing Transformation Programme, the development of the costing standards, the National Cost Collection and the move to patient-level costing.

    Speakers
Jack Hardman   / Head of Costing , NHS England and NHS Improvement Costing Team

Reporting accurate cost information into a national database isn’t the only reason to collect patientlevel data. Organisations with Patient-Level Information and Costing Systems (PLICS) are now starting to analyse and interpret their data locally to make important decisions about their services. This session will look at how organisations can use costing information as business intelligence within the organisation. Petra will also share details of their vision for the future of costing as they start to work together with other trusts across the system.

    Speakers
Petra Scantlebury   / Assistant Director of Finance – Strategy and Planning , Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust
