How will the conference work?
Join us for a unique 12 day online festival of learning. We will be bringing you a programme full of high-quality and relevant content, specifically designed for finance team members with all levels of experience.
This year the HFMA annual conference will be a little bit different as we respond to the challenges and restrictions presented by Covid-19. In order to provide the best and safest experience to our delegates and attendees, we will be offering this year’s event to you as an online virtual conference. This means that we look forward to bringing you together virtually, over a period of 12 days and with a varied programme whilst providing an enjoyable experience, and opportunities to network with colleagues from across the country. View our conference brochure.
Book your organisation on
This year bookings are purchased as a licence for your organisation, allowing up to 25 delegates to attend the event per organisation*. Our organisation licences and event programme have been designed to make the conference accessible for colleagues across your whole finance team.
Once your organisation has purchased a licence for the event, our team will share a unique login with all delegates from your organisation, prior to the event. This will give delegates access to the entire programme from our virtual event platform.
Book your organisation in by 9 October to get the 5% early booker discount. Please complete the booking form and return to Josie.Baskerville@hfma.org.uk to book your organisation onto the conference.

How can I access the content? Our online virtual platform can be accessed from any internet browser, although we do recommend Chrome wherever possible. In the lead up to the event the events team will send information on how to access the event to every team member that has been registered.
Can we broadcast this from our meeting room?We encourage the whole team to come together, particularly for some of the main stage events. We do however ask that you limit the number to the number of licenses purchased. Make sure to log onto the platform from your desktop in order to network with colleagues and to visit the virtual exhibition floor to connect with our commercial colleagues.
Is there an option to attend in person? Our priority is to keep our members and staff safe so for the 2020 annual conference we are only running our roundtables in person. We have partnered with a great virtual event platform that will provide many of the opportunities you have always enjoyed.
Can I just buy one ticket? We have designed the programme to ensure that it is relevant to the whole finance team to encourage organisations to participate as a team. We do understand that circumstances may not always allow this to happen, please do get in touch with our team to discuss the options available.
What is a license?Instead of selling individual delegate tickets this year we're encouraging organisations to open the opportunity up to the team. Depending on the size of your organisation you'll get an allotment of licenses. Each license will be assigned to a member of the team and they will be provided with their own unique login. This will allow them to access the whole 12 days of conference programme, to network with colleagues from across the nation and visit the virtual exhibition floor.
What if we want more than the number of licences available?Organisations will be able to purchase additional licenses. Contact Josie.Baskerville@hfma.org.uk for more information.
What online platform is being used and can I test it?The platform we’ve partnered with is Hopin, which will provide a brilliant virtual conference and exhibition experience. Once your organisation has confirmed you as a delegate for the conference you will be sent a unique registration link to access the event when it starts. In the meantime, you can create an account on Hopin and check that it is compatible with your device and browser at https://hopin.to/. You can find some additional points below:
- For the best experience we recommend accessing the platform via Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox on a PC, laptop, tablet or Mac. If you are planning to view the conference from an NHS PC or laptop at work, please get in touch with your IT department now to ensure any firewall issues are resolved beforehand.
- Internet speed will play a factor in your experience on the platform. We recommend a minimum of 5mbps download and 2mbps upload. Ideally, we like to see 30mbps download and 10mbps upload or higher for the best quality - test your speed here.
- We will also be using this platform to host a number of other virtual events in the lead up to the HFMA annual conference, visit the HFMA website for all upcoming HFMA events.
How do I access the event? We recommend accessing the event through either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. In the lead up to the event, you will receive a registration link (it will come into your inbox from “HFMA”). Simply click the link, accept the T&Cs and you’re in! A video explanation can be found here.
I haven’t received a registration link from HFMA. How do I access the event? Please contact email@example.com and a member of the HFMA team will be in touch with a link.
I’m being asked to enter a username and password. What do I do?If you haven’t registered for the event, please see FAQs, “How do I access the event” and FAQ “I haven’t received a registration link from HFMA. How do I access the event?” If you have registered for the event, and you’re being asked to log in, you will need to set up a password. Simply click “I’ve forgotten my password”, and it will give you option to create a password and enter the event.
Can we broadcast this from our meeting room? This is possible, however please note that the other features of the platform will not be available to those watching the stream; for example the Q&A feature, exhibition, workshop selection will only be accessible on one account. We recommend that if a member of your team would like to join the event, that they have their own log in to access all the content and get the best experience from the event.
If I take up one of the licenses in my organisation, can I transfer it to a colleague or will it only work for me across the whole conference? We can transfer licences in the lead up to the conference if you can no longer use your place and would like to give it to a colleague. However, once the conference starts each licence will remain in the name of the delegate it has been assigned to. If you wish to give a colleague access during the conference with your unique log in, they will have to appear on the event as you under your Hopin account.
How many CPD hours will I get, and how will they be calculated if I don't watch all the content? The platform will record how many active minutes/ hours each individual spends on the conference, and we will create a unique CPD certificate for you at the end. CPD certificates will be sent on request.
Will I get access to the recorded content afterwards? The recorded content from the conference will be available to all registered delegates and will be accessible for a month after it is published on our website.
Where will the 2021 conference be held?We hope to be able to run the HFMA annual conference 2021 as usual at the Hilton London Metropole, although this is dependent on the national situation.
The HFMA conference has been established over the years as the most important event in healthcare finance and this year is no exception with exciting innovations to the format of this event as we prepare for a new online festival of learning.
The learning labs, usually hosted on the first day of the face to face conference, will now be streamed over the first 4 afternoons of the 12 days of conference and will be linked to the overarching themes of the event. The learning labs are interactive and often run as a discussion forums or facilitated sessions. You can expect a mix of NHS case studies and some sponsored sessions with topics being quite varied, reaching across several sectors. These topics include:
- New technology
- Partnership working
- Lessons learnt from COVID-19
- Wellbeing and resilience
- Value based healthcare
- Future focused finance
- Governance and Audit
- Community services
This event has CPD accredited status with The CPD Standards Office. Delegates that attend will receive an accredited CPD Certificate of Attendance.
