In February 2014, the six heads of the finance profession in the NHS came together to initiate Future-Focused Finance and form the Finance Leadership Council (FLC). The FLC sponsors the Future-Focused Finance programme, and forms its steering group who meet on a monthly basis. The FLC members are:

Bob Alexander, Director of Finance, NHS Trust Development Authority

Paul Baumann, Chief Financial Officer, NHS England

Steve Clarke, Finance Director, Health Education England

Richard Douglas, Director General, Strategy, Finance and NHS, Department of Health

Stephen Hay, Managing Director of Provider Regulation, Monitor

Sue Lorimer, Business Director North, NHS Trust Development Authority and HFMA President

Future-Focused Finance is about ‘Making People Count’ and offers a vision for NHS finance to aspire to over the next five years. That includes everyone who works in finance, in every role at every level, those we work with to deliver services and the patients and communities that use and support those services.

To deliver the transformation required to bring about the vision, work is being developed around three strategic themes: securing excellence, knowing the business and fulfilling our potential. Each theme has specific action areas which have their own programme of projects. The six action areas are led by a senior responsible officer (SRO) drawn from the service. These are:

Since launching, we have been working closely with FSD and HFMA to ensure we gain from the existing networks and experience in steering the strategic direction of the FFF programme. In March 2015 we established a Foundation, to secure the aims and objectives of FFF into the longer-term, with HFMA and the FSD network as founding partners. We have also signed an agreement with HFMA to be the prime strategic partner for the programme. In its role as prime partner, it contributes resources to FFF in the form of secretariat support to the FLC and the Foundation and provides the hosting arrangements for FFF budgets and contracting.

FFF has its own YouTube channel which contains update videos on the programme and footage from some of our events. You can also Follow FFF on Twitter @nhsfff #FutureFocusedFinance.

If you would like any further information on any of the above, please get in touch with the FFF central team who will be more than happy to help
