NHS Charity Reporting

The need for charities to produce clear and meaningful reports and accounts has never been greater. The public and stakeholders demand clear and transparent explanations of how charities use their funds and the impact they have in their area of activity. The HFMA NHS Charity Reporting Award offers an opportunity to show case best practice and celebrate the work of charities within the NHS. The theme for this year is transparent annual reporting.

Further detail on this Award can be found in HFMA’s 2007 Awards brochure.

Winner: Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charities

Plain English and user-friendly design were the keys to Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charities’ success at the HFMA awards. The Charities’ annual report combined accessibility with all the required information on how the charities use the funds they raise. The report also tried to put patients’ minds at ease by answering questions using images and captions.

BCH Charities’ chief executive Stuart Reynolds said: ‘I am delighted and very honoured. It’s a welcome recognition of the work we have done to try to demystify charity reporting. We produce a document that people want to pick up.’
