The Certificate is aimed primarily at non finance professionals in the NHS, particularly General and Divisional Managers, Nurse Managers, Practice Managers, Practice Staff and NEDs. It is also relevant to finance trainees, finance staff new to the NHS and to FTs.

Over 6,000 NHS learners now have access to HFMA e-learning and are realising the benefits of flexible learning to help them develop their understanding of NHS finance. 5,300 of those finance and non-finance staff across 250 organisations are gaining an understanding and awareness of fundamentals through our ‘Introductory Certificate in Healthcare Finance in England’ syllabus.

Learners on the Certificate are required to successfully complete five out of the following modules.   (Click on each module title to download a syllabus sheet)

Each module takes an average of 1 – 1.5 hours to complete (if completed in one sitting) plus a further 20-40 minutes for the assessment test, which means that achievement of the certificate equates to approximately 7.5 hours CPD.  The certificate also includes a copy of our best selling guide ‘An Introduction to NHS Finance in the UK.’

The certificate provides a much needed opportunity for non finance professionals in the NHS to demonstrate their competence in basic NHS finance. It also offers finance staff the chance to get to grips with the fundamentals of healthcare finance before embarking on a technical or professional accounting qualification.
