GP Finance
The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) is the representative body for finance staff in the NHS. It has supported the healthcare finance function for 60 years providing amongst other things quality training and technical support for those involved with the management of NHS resources.
HFMA has developed a range of materials specifically for GPs and non-finance staff involved in the transition of commission responsibility to GP consortia. The materials currently available are detailed as follows. This range will be evolved in due course.
Briefings:
HFMA developed its first briefing in the Autumn 2010 specifically for GPs, Practice Managers and non-finance staff involved in the transition of commissioning responsibility to GP consortia. The purpose of this first briefing was to assist with the development of knowledge required to carry out the financial responsibilities associated with changing roles. The briefing provides a handy summary covering key information around NHS financial flows and key information on how we expect the Consortia to work from a financial perspective.
A second briefing is now available also developed specifically for GPs, Practice Managers and non-finance staff involved in the transition of commissioning responsibility to GP consortia. This second briefing focuses on budgets, budget monitoring and control which play a key role in ensuring the financial health of any organisation.
Please contact us on 0117 929 4789 or email info@hfma.org.uk for hard copies of either publication.
E-learning:
HFMA has also developed the ‘Introductory Certificate in Healthcare Finance in England for General Practice’. Participants will be required to successfully complete five e-learning modules. The training will provide a basic understanding and awareness of fundamental aspects of NHS Finance and help develop the business skills needed to carry out the financial responsibilities associated with evolving roles. The certificate includes up to eight hours of CPD, and is accompanied by our ‘Introductory Guide to NHS Finance in the UK’. The certificate package is open to anyone who is interested to learn more about NHS Finance and is priced at £165+VAT or £148.50 if your PCT is a partner of HFMA. Discounts are available for bulk purchases. To place an order, please use this order form. Please either call 0117 929 4789 to speak to the e-learning sales team or mail e-learningsales@hfma.org.uk.
