This policy updating seminar will examine the Next Steps Review and its implications for the reform agenda for the NHS. We will focus on service and education provision, and on commissioning and performance management with partner public agencies, improving quality in line with the new legislation while maintaining financial control. By the end of the seminar, we will have covered the following: - The policy to develop “devolved self-care” and “polyclinics” where patients and carers, as “experts”, are supported locally in technology-led community clinics and at home. - Health Innovation and Education Clusters and the Translational Research Programmes and their implications for organising education and training in the future to reflect technological innovations in practice development, “EARLY HEALTH” and the reorganisation of research and development in the Research Institutes. - The proposals to localise both medical and non-medical education and training commissioning, improving local workforce planning and education provision. - The changing legal and regulatory framework and its resourcing implications for providers as they introduce Knowledge Management and the clinical controls assurance requirements proposed under the new legislation and the Corporate Manslaughter Act 2007. - The revised tariffs to support financial controls and cash flow management, while improving the service’s operational gearing and risk profile including in the multi-agency public service partnerships.
