CE and Chairman

Mark Knight

Chief Executive

Mark became the first full-time Chief Executive of the Healthcare Financial Management Association in October 2000.  His initial tasks were to stabilise HFMA’s financial and internal management capabilities.  He masterminded the move from the CIPFA offices in London to Bristol and has now established a team of 30 staff who are now totally dedicated to delivering HFMA’s busy agenda.

Mark’s skills and experience in the sector have enabled HFMA to strengthen its internal capacity and develop its external profile.

Since 2001 membership has doubled from 1,600 to 3,400 and turnover nearly trebled in the same period.  A limited company, HFMA Ltd has been established and Mark has been responsible for developing partner schemes for NHS and Corporate organisations.

On the policy side, Mark is a frequent contributor in the media and he is responsible for the development of a comprehensive policy programme.

Originally from the Midlands, Mark Knight graduated from the Polytechnic of Wales with a BA(Hons) in Public Administration in 1988.  After a five year period in HR spent in the public services he worked for CIPFA promoting their professional qualification mainly within the housing association and higher and further education sectors.

He then became Education and Training Manager at the Trading Standards Institute before joining the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in 1998 as Regional Manager – South, West and Wales.

Mark is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and the Chartered Institute of Marketing
