Steve Elliot
Steve Elliot:
I am the Head of Finance in the Health and Social Services Directorate General of the Welsh Assembly Government. My role involves managing the revenue allocations to the Welsh Health Boards, financial management of central health and social services budgets, and policy lead for development of costing and service line reporting. I report to the Director of Finance for NHS Wales.
He undertook my CIPFA training with the National Audit Office in London in the late 1980s. I have 18 years experience of working in senior financial management in health in Wales, which has included roles in a health authority and NHS trust, and since 2001 in the Welsh Assembly Government. I have an interest in health economics, and successfully completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Economic Evaluation in Healthcare at the University of Glamorgan.
Why I wanted to be a Trustee?
I have been an active member of HFMA Wales for nearly a decade, and have held branch roles as Treasurer, Chair of the Financial Management and Research Network, and now as Chair. In 2005, I received an Outstanding Contribution Award for my work in the branch, and attended the International Conference in Paris in 2007 as his prize. My aim is for HFMA Wales to continue to be held as the leading provider of learning and development for NHS finance staff, supporting the NHS Wales Finance Staff Development Strategy. I am honoured to serve as the Welsh representative on the Board of Trustees, and look forward to being involved in promoting the excellent work of HFMA in Wales and throughout the UK.
