Barbara Byrne
I have been a Finance Director since 1998 and Appointed Executive Director of Finance & Information at West London Mental Health Trust in April 2004. West London Mental Health Trust provides a full range of local mental health services for children, adults and older people living in the boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, and Hounslow. In addition the Trust provides specialist and forensic mental health services, including high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital. The Trust has a major capital modernisation programme including a proposed £260 million redevelopment at Broadmoor hospital. Supporting the pan London currency development project to further progress on PbR for mental health. In previous roles gained wide experience across the NHS (including acute providers, primary care trust and mental health) with specific involvement in LIFT, commissioning and capital investment.
I am a trained mentor through the HFMA programme and am currently mentoring senior NHS finance professionals and trainees.
Why I wanted to be an HFMA Trustee?
To get an opportunity to find out about the wider NHS beyond London, particularly Wales, Scotland and NI, to enhance my involvement beyond the mental health world, to bring mental health perspective to HFMA as well as an opportunity to influence. What have I gained? All of the above plus better understanding of role of non executive on a Board with executives (ie reverse of my day to day role) together with a better understanding of how HFMA functions and more involvement in my local branch.
